Welcome back Darkish (finally). You're using the word "Catholic" a lot. Narutokid is Baptist. Say "Christian" for now and we'll go into factions later.

Yeah, but isn't that what we're talking about?

The Catholic Church and the donations...charities and the such?

He has a point there, Quan. Btw, why are ALL of my posts ignored? It's not like I'm new at debating!!!

Remember--Ephesians mentions no "back plate" in the the Armor of God. Don't run away.

Hey EternalSlayer...this guys spamming all the popular boards with this crap. You should either give him a warning or nuke him...either ways fine with me...Jacks

Jackal's right you know, this finpop guy has the exact same message posted quite a few times; all in non-related boards... I just came across it in ES's 5000 post board, that would be the fifth time i've seen it today.

It is getting kind of aggravating because, well, I hate Animal Crossing. And he's annoying...

Anyways back on topic... to Quan Chi, first of all I don't believe in God persay, I merely believe that there is a higher power somewhere in the universe: one that is both good and evil. One who keeps everything perfectly balanced.
My opinions about hell, and the war against God, well that's just how I see Christianity...

I used to go to church, and I found it just a big joke. I saw no way for me to believe that God was real. Once I went on a retreat with my church ($80..transportation mostly) and they called it the encounter. Back then I seriously tried to become closer with God. Then one day they did this thing where those who could speak in "tongues" went and surrounded those who could not, and prayed for them using "tongues." I just so happened to be the last person standing there with all of these people yelling out jibberish to me (but remember back then I thought it was Holy) and nothing would happen...I tried "opening" myself up to God but nothing happened, so I just started yelling out some jibberish and everyone started saying Halleluja(sp?)

I mean what I did was bull...There was no Holy Spirit inside of me...I just felt bad that I was the last one..

Since then I have lost all faith in God because He was never there... Personally I don't think God exists.

Since science has provided me with answers, I am more towards the scientific side of the debate and fully support them.

And Quan, yes you would get used to the flames....think about a shower (i know it is significantly cooler than flames but the same logic applies) you gradually turn the heat up and it may feel too hot for a while, but then you get used to it and you can turn it up even hotter, and still get used to it. Therefore I think the same for if there is a Hell. Burning for eternity...ya I'd say you could get used to it, I mean you're there forever, so let's say even 100,000 years...you would get used to it.

    Ok, about the jibberish part...

I can safely assume that that had no relation to the Catholic Church.

My sister saw the same thing actually, I don't know the exact details, but what you said sounded very familiar.

And if that did have relation to the Catholic Church, then they are mislead...nothing else.

    About the flame part...

For the last time. Hell isn't flames and fire. It is the loss of God and being alone for all of eternity.

There are the fires of the Holy Spirit.

And then there are the fires of Hell.

The flames just represent the intensity of the subject.

Thank you Darkish, I was about to tell Chao the same thing. (Though I still don't think you could ever get used to burning in real flames).

And yes I know that Darkish was talking about the Catholic Church in particular at that time, but there were other times as well. It was just a warning.

To Chao: I'd like to know more about this retreat and the "toungues".

I wish I could check up here at the right times so that I could make a point every once in a while. I feel like I'm just asking and answering questions.

    DR Said -
    "Ok...let me get this straight...

You...are in the middle? Of God or no God. And you would perfer there to be a God, right? Yet you choose to beleive in no God, right?

Why want to beleive something...and not?"

I'll try and explain this, but with your views it may be difficult to understand.
It's like when someone tells you a lie, like they won a million dollars, you want it to be true, it would be great, but you know it isn't so you cant force yourself to believe it.

    DR Said -
"They were gifts to the Church. And who is the Church? The people are the Church.

So in order to sell something....you would need the approval of every single Roman Catholic in the world...nearly immpossible."

But aren't catholics all loving and wanting to do everything they can for the poor? then wouldn't they all agree to sell? so there wouldn't be a problem, right?

    DR Said -
"Ok, so why do Atheists do good? If death is the end, why be commpassionate to others?

Why go out of your way to make others happy?

Why not just live life to make yourself happy?

    Why do good?"

Because it feels good to do good
You cant be happy when people around you suffer, catholic or not

Let me ask you, would you still do good if it felt absolutely horrible? No, dont think so. You do good because it feels good and because you want to spend eternity (minus your life) in paradise, making you happy. Doesn't seem so selfless when I put it like that.

~We want to help the poor, but sadly, some Catholics aren't all-loving.

~Even so, getting official permission of each and every member of the church isn't gonna happen in our lifetime.

It feels good to do good because as you grew up, your conciense(sp?) was molded from the actions of those that surrounded you. That chained down from Adam & Eve, and since they were children of God, and we were all eventually born from them, most of us have a decent conciense. If that weren't true, no one would have a conciense and the world would be absolute chaos. So yeah, I'd say religion made the world a better place.

You dont have to go around and get the permission, as your religion says, be loving and giving. So the Pope should just say "we're selling this, and if you don't agree, you're not loving and giving and you aren't following our ways so your say doesn't count"
And you say some catholics aren't all loving, but like any big organization, the majority rule, and the majority would wanna sell. You see what I'm saying?

as for the bit about conscience, sure, religion has had some part in that, but no bigger than say friendship and love. For example, you wouldn't want me to kill one of your friends, and I wouldn't want you to kill one of mine, so we agree to do neither and thus there is no chaos not much about religion in there, although religion does embrace those principals, it is not the basis for them.
