Thank you Darkish, I was about to tell Chao the same thing. (Though I still don't think you could ever get used to burning in real flames).

And yes I know that Darkish was talking about the Catholic Church in particular at that time, but there were other times as well. It was just a warning.

To Chao: I'd like to know more about this retreat and the "toungues".

I wish I could check up here at the right times so that I could make a point every once in a while. I feel like I'm just asking and answering questions.

Okay, the church I went to was Pentecostal, therefore way more Christian than Catholic.
About "tongues", firstly I'm surprised you guys don't know... Well, according to my old church, when the Holy Spirit touches you and fills you, you begin to speak the language of God...a.k.a. jibberish sounding words...

That was the main point of the retreat, as it was called,"The Encounter." Anyways, most of this retreat was bible study... I used to find it very interesting... now only the Book of Revelation can interest me... because the world will have to come to an end... either by the predictions in Revelations, or the way science predicts: the sun gradually follows its life course and turns into a red giant, or super-giant, each of which could take up enough space to go past Mars...and consume us all...
But by then we would be much further advanced in space travel, and somehow find a way to live in another galaxy...

    Next...

"I'll try and explain this, but with your views it may be difficult to understand.
It's like when someone tells you a lie, like they won a million dollars, you want it to be true, it would be great, but you know it isn't so you cant force yourself to believe it."

Errrm..well if that's how Cyborg feels, then okey-dokey.

"But aren't catholics all loving and wanting to do everything they can for the poor? then wouldn't they all agree to sell? so there wouldn't be a problem, right?"

    Ha! If only...

"Because it feels good to do good
You cant be happy when people around you suffer, catholic or not

Let me ask you, would you still do good if it felt absolutely horrible? No, dont think so. You do good because it feels good and because you want to spend eternity (minus your life) in paradise, making you happy. Doesn't seem so selfless when I put it like that."

Which again ties into the emotions and instinct.

"Holy crap, I just read this whole topic. Sorry for the stuff my friend wrote, he was at my house posting on my account...didn't know he was posting that stuff."

Yeah....I was wondering what was going on...

"It feels good to do good because as you grew up, your conciense(sp?) was molded from the actions of those that surrounded you. That chained down from Adam & Eve, and since they were children of God, and we were all eventually born from them, most of us have a decent conciense. If that weren't true, no one would have a conciense and the world would be absolute chaos. So yeah, I'd say religion made the world a better place."

Kind of confusing there...but well put.

Can the Evolutionists explain a conscience (sp?...I think there are two kinds...but you know what I am talking about.)

"You dont have to go around and get the permission, as your religion says, be loving and giving. So the Pope should just say "we're selling this, and if you don't agree, you're not loving and giving and you aren't following our ways so your say doesn't count"
And you say some catholics aren't all loving, but like any big organization, the majority rule, and the majority would wanna sell. You see what I'm saying?"

Oh, so if a Catholic isn't loving and giving...we're going to Hell, right? Wrong.

People have a misguided view on the Catholic faith...it's not nearly as strict or demanding as you might think.

Pretty much all you have to do is go to Church every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation.

Go to confession every once in a while.

And be a good person. Swearing or not being the best person you can be won't send you to Hell...

"still think you should become Mormon, were taking over the world.."

Don't the Mormons beleive that Jesus and the Devil are/were brothers? Correct me if I'm wrong of course.

"Scientology VS Mormons... that could be interesting"

    How about Catholicism VS Protestantism?

"Okay, the church I went to was Pentecostal, therefore way more Christian than Catholic."

    How so?

You mean the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the 11 Apostles and Mary?

After that...the Apostles were able to understand every language and when they spoke, every language understood them.

    To darkish:
Well Catholics believe mostly in the Gospels and focus completely on subjects and rituals such as the sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist. Pentecostals are considered to be Christian. Christians focus on the complete New Testament, minus the Book of Revelation. Pentecostals like to focus on the Pentecost (duh...) which was the event in which the Holy Spirit came to the Apostles and Mary. A quote from Acts 2: 4 "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in with other tongues (languages), as the Spirit was giving them utterance."

That's what it means to speak in "tongues."
