Trainer's working great, the research option is a real live saver.
I did find that there are things that require up to 700 wood for construction like the Town Hall upgrade 3 and (so far) 1 campaign building, so you would need to turn off the option to collect the wood since it keeps setting the wood to 500.
Apparently testing your game before releasing patches is "not and option" either

Wood option needs to be turned up to 600 for town hall level 3, otherwise you have to turn it off, gather more wood, and turn it back on again after the upgrade.
This is correct, can't get it without disabling it
EDIT: Also applies to everything else, like food for example
