So i have tried for a few hours now to get it to work. Ive read ALL the posts here but to no avail. I start the trainer as admin, i run the game, i start a scenario, and click on a unit and press F1, only to hear "Failed" and get the DLL failure. I am running Gathering Storm, and the game is updated.
For the scenario, some of them have different rule with regular Civilization 6.
Probably that is why the trainer does not work. They would have very different address for variables.
I suggest rather stick to normal game if you want to use the trainer.

Do you use the DX11 version of the game? and do you have the DLC enabled? en do you active the trainer in-game where you can see/use units? (why try in a tutorial? try the actual game)
The trainer does not work whatsoever for me, either with DX11 or DX12. I will get the "Trainer Activated" message as expected, but none of the options work. When I open the readme, it states it is for Rise and Fall only. I delete the trainer and download Gathering Storm, still doesn't work and still says it is for Rise and Fall only.
The only thing I can think is that either the readme was a copy job, or the download link isn't updated. I've got all the expansion packs so I don't know if this is messing things up.
You need the Gathering Storm DLC Enabled.

I double checked that before posting, and yep, both Gathering Storm (i see the Gathering Storm intro at the beginning + its activated in steam) and DX11, not 12 is running!
