I've got the same problem as xevi0us. Just started a game and the kulrathi have colonized 4 worlds, have medium freighters and a cruiser after 4 minutes! On easy difficulty!
PC must be using the fast research option somehow.

Are you using my or Caliber's trainer? My trainer changes the multiplier for all researches in the game at once, so there might be a chance that it will affect enemy's research as well (I couldn't test it by the method I am using). Caliber's trainer instead should be safe to use. Just curious...

I was using your trainer but the games updated again so it doesn't really matter now.
