i would have to play the game further along to actually get knives and bullets into my inventory. how far is it into the game? i have played quite a ways into it but not seen these items. of course we cannot share saves unfortunately.

you get the knives on the second mission i think...
Spoiler:

after you went to "your" town, the mission is that you assault a town and have to jump over a wall and unlock it from the inside
you get the smoke bomb when you travel to the country side, to kill several different men to get to another one, atleast i got it when i went to the one that is hiding in a cloister, i have not gotten the gun yet so cant tell...

I can't remember when exactly you get the gun. But it's quite far into the game, around sequence Spoiler:

8 or 9

I think.
