I'm looking into making my own account (finally). I know it's something like $15 a month to play, but if I already have WoW installed on my PC, do I still need to pay for the base game and expansions?

You can go for a trial for the original vanilla WoW which you can activate full account by paying for a full retail key.
You best buy from shops, you can get for cheap, and yes you have to pay for expansions they have unique keys that upgrade your account to unlock other content.
Then you pay your monthly fee. Dont do by credit card, buy 60 day prepaid cards.
