well you could try and hang with them, see if there seems to be anything between them, if you think there is talk about it with her, if not then you might have made a friend in the progress.

Well what you have to do is lay it all out on the table for her.
No point in making it complicated.
Just tell her you're not happy with her hanging out with him, and if she cant respect that then give her a choice, you or him.
If she doesn't respect your feelings then shes not worth the time mate. You may come to a compromise or she might just stop hanging out with that guy.

if it was me i would confront her, why is she hanging around someone you clearly don't like? what happened to loyalty? seems weird

If all else fails then I agree with ZD and dstates, give him a bash and defend your territory.
Dumping her is an option but only if she cant see the wisdom in beating him up.
