How the heck do you get to pewter city and what's the point of that damn snorlax? Please answer.

to get to Pewter City you have to get the Kanto radio station working, and to do that you need to fix the Power Plant, the missing piece is hidden in the Cerulean Gym, use the Itemfinder to get it, then once the power plants fixed go to the radio station and get the card from the manager, and then you can tune into the Pokeflute station and wake the snorlax, beat it/capture it (capture for pokedex, they're rare) and then go through diglett tunnel which ends up just below Pewter City, voila.
