Hi. I am trying to load the most recent version of the GRID 2 trainer (1.0.85.8679) but the version that downloads is 1.0.84.7636. I have tried 3 times but the downloaded version is always the previous build. This is the case with both the AVX and non-AVX versions.

Version number may not be updated in the file name, did you try it to see if it works?
I found out the version was wrong because the trainer sys the game can't be found.

Do you own the game on Steam?
Yes, Steam version. My version doesn't seem to matter as the download won't be the most recent release.
I only posted this because I can't seem to find a way to contact the Powers That Be at CheatHappens so they can correct this. This isn't a thing that can be talked through. The download version isn't the version this site says it will be. That can't be solved by helpful people on these boards. Only CH people can help.

The trainer is 7 years old and there are no other reports, so you are probably doing something wrong or using the wrong trainer (AVX or Non AVX) and make sure to read instructions.
