Honestly I'm waiting more for games that are worth to own a high end graphic card. Currently most games are designed to run on current (old) consoles. So I don't feel its worth to own a 3000 when even a 2080(TI) can run everything at a decent level. Most reviews show that there are only edge scenarios where 3000 shines. For example 4k with RTX on.

Let's wait for new console generation and the adoption time is over and AAA games gets designed to run on new console generation. Then we can discuss a new graphic card generation on PC again.

Don't get me wrong 3000 series is very well. Good price for good performance. But is the extra performance required? Do current graphic cards suffer on rendering current games? That's the more important question for me. And I think we're doing fine as of now.

    Great points there 0x90.

I run most games maxed/high settings on a measly 100Hz UWQHD display. I have issues in some games to keep the FPS high enough and I can really feel the drops when its not able to keep 100fps. I know I know, first world problems. But I need the performance especially in competitive titles I play.

The reason why I want to upgrade is the raytracing technology to see how much better it looks in games, especially in titles with DLSS support and the huge performance boost compared to my 1080Ti which I remember was the big dog when I got it. haha

im currently using a 1080TI, so unless it dies on me, i will most likely skip another generation

The performance/cost of the 3xxx must have made a few 2xxx buyers cry tho 😂

yup was thinking the same. My 1080ti seems to be holdin up quite nicely. Waiting for next gen may be the way to go here.

    I agree with your Statement.
My System has a Geforce GTX 980 SuperClocked and it's completely sufficient for actual games.

Also the Prices are insane and scare me off from buying one in the near future.

I have SLI 2080 Ti, and it's great, but if I can shift to 1x card to handle it all, it would help performance in some games that don't like SLI and make it easier to achieve 100 FPS in others. I play on UWQHD at 100Hz, so really need that power.

I also understand people not wanting to buy it. I'm feeling the pain of 2x 2080 Ti's at $1,200 ($2,400 total) that can be replaced by 2x 3080's for $700 ($1,400) total. Such is the life I guess when you live on the bleeding edge.

I did see there was "President" version floated on an Asian website; not sure if it's real, but could. A lot of thinking is that they will release a 3080 Ti with 20GB, and an actual Titan with a full die, and more RAM; could be the "President" one.

Interested to hear if anyone gets one / how it is.

    Sincerely,
    N.

well, i'm supposed to get the Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080

the Nvidia version had about 70-80% better performance than the 2080TI
i'm guessing the Asus should be a little better

but the cooling improvements are also a big factor for me
and the 3000 series is supposed to have a much better cooling system

Sitting with my 3090 FE I received yesterday, have to be honest it blows the 2080ti and even the 3080 out the park.

Been comfortably playing some titles in 4k/144hz with my fan speed no higher than 55% and temps around 63C, with max settings, from SAO: Alicization Lycoris, Death Stranding (with no DLSS) and even MS Flightsim is so much better, although the FPS in 4k/144hz is hovering around 45 on everything maxed, it is a beast of a title.

The 3090 also is good for non-gaming stuff too, rendering is nice a quickish in other apps, video editing etc also.

But if you just want a gaming card go for the 3080, if you don't care about quality wait for the 3070 at $400ish.

The "problem" I have with Ampere is that Turing just allows amazing overclocking.

In Shadow of the Tombraider 4K (RTX off) Ultra maxed my 2080Ti is just 15 fps behind the 3090 without heavy overclocking.

2080 TI Rog Strix pushes 65 fps.
2080 TI Aorus Waterforce pushes 71 frames

MSI 3090 was at 77 fps in the Computerbase test.
A Computerbasemember posted his Gainward Phoenix GS 2080ti with 2100 MHz and 8000 VRAM clocks ending at 79 frames and surpassing the 3090 lol.

    A good overclocked 2080Ti is 10-15% behind a 3080 and 20-25% behind a 3090.
Turing also gets all DLSS 2.0 and DLSS 3.0 improvements, so a 2080Ti will easily be able to play Cyberpunk 4K Ultrasettings with 60+ frames.

The 3090 is ridiculously overpriced compared to what the 3080 offers, it makes even let the 2080 Ti look better in hindsight.

And watching the 3090 getting wrecked in Red Dead Redemption 2 at 4K Ultra Settings and strugglin to maintain 60 fps in some areas and somehow still beeing within around 65-70 frames, only, overall, is an interesting reality check.

In 2560x1440 and 3440x1440 the 3080 and 3090 are funnily often CPU limited, so we need faster CPUs or better scaling engines that utilize CPU cores anyway.

Don't get me wrong, the 3090 is an amazing GPU, and while I am still a bit disappointed with the 3090, I will finally end up with Zen 3 and the 5900 Ryzen CPU and a 3090, maybe watercooled, but to be honest, for 2080Ti Users there is no need in upgrading and you can skip Ampere, really, unless you belong to the ~ 5 % of user that play on 4K and need that 10-25 more frames.
The 2080Ti just punches above her weight., the 3080 and 3090 don't, unfortunately.

Oh, and one more thing: Just wait for AMD RDNA2 GPUs, just to watch Nvidia reacting. AMD might be able to compete with the 3080 considerung als rumours.

Until then, for everyone still on Pascal or Maxwell GPUs, the 3080 and maybe even the 3070 might be no brainers and great buys.
