You can use the free build option to get infinite skill points until they add an option for that.
Clear a corner of your base (about 15 to 20 m²) and spam the last food item (the pumpkin crate) in the consumable category all across the floor, you can stack them as well. Then, scrap the food crates you've just build and do it again. You get a decent amount of xp for every crate that you've built and scrapped. Takes only a few minutes to get 10 skill points. 😁

Are you activating it ingame or at main menu?
It doesn't activate in the main menu. If I hit F1 in main menu it activates once I load into the save, during the loading screen. The old trainer for the recent version still works for me btw.
