When I am using my VPN, the trainers say I'm offline. Is this intented or an oversight?

Neither of them as I can run every trainer from us with a running VPN with no issues.
Very likely your VPN is blocking outgoing/incoming connections by default on certain ports.
Good for health, bad for education.

Not all VPN software can be accounted for. If you need to continue using your VPN, you may look into offline authentication (found in the trainer troubleshooting guide) to continue using your trainers.

Most VPM have a "whitelist" option, add www.cheathappens.com/ to it.
