Latest version of .net won't work. you need this one:

Have all of the following installed.

.NET Core 3.1 Desktop Runtime x86 Link
.NET Core 3.1 Desktop Runtime x64 Link
.NET Core Current Runtime x86 Link
.NET Core Current Runtime x64 Link
.NET Framework (get latest) Link

(Both x86 and x64 of the .Net Core MUST be installed)

Reboot PC when done.

Cheers mate, yeah that was the version I was talking about when I posted (soz for the confusion), I saw Cyphers post (i think) with the links for both x64 n x84 and installed them after my initial failure to get the trainer working.

My first issue was the trainer asking for an app to get it to open, I installed the .net stuff from Cyphers post suggestion and it got as far as showing the customised graphic but wouldn't start. It shows up in my task list as being resident but doesnt go any further.

Make sure to reboot after .NET CORE installation and you may need to do this if it still asks for another app (usually happens after a trainer has been flagged by anti-virus and it either needs cleared from quarantine/log or set to allow)

Thanks CyPHeR369. I've rebooted multiple times. Did the reset on default apps per the link above. Also have Reputation-based protection turned off entirely.

So far, all other trainers are working perfectly, its only the latest GD trainer that's playing up. Any suggestions are much appreciated

Sounds like it is still getting flagged by anti-virus, once the definition has been added to the database on their end there is nothing you can turn off to stop it, an exclusion must be added. That or as a last resort run the Windows SFC tool to see if recent updates and installs were done correctly.

You may want to open a support ticket for a remote desktop session if you still can't get it to work.

For some reason, the trainer does not recognize that I am running the 64 bit version of the game, even though that is the EXE I am running from the x64 directory. That's not related to what antivirus I am running, surely?

Not sure, post the error log, my magic 8-ball is in the shop so I have no idea how you launching it, what you are using for security or what you are seeing.
