Turn down shadows to the very lowest setting, and maybe turn off AA in game also.

I uninstalled AC3 and then uninstalled NVIDIA's GeForce 310.54 Beta drivers and went back to the none beta drivers for my card with them!..

re-installing AC3 and well try the settings you recommended

    update

after turning off AA and lowering settings I was able to do mission's in the frontier with no problem's, maybe removing the beta drivers helped too!..

I had to turn off AA from my NVIDIA control panel and made other changes there too!..

The absolute minimum for a processor is a Core 2 duo EB200 @2.06 GHz. it also states the game may have issues running on laptops as mobile versions are not supported simple put to improve the reliability you need to run it on a desktop PC
