And then the game crashed to the desktop, I guess I won't be able to play AC3 on my laptop, once I left boston and entered the frontier the game lagged and then black shadows started appearing on screen along with flashing and then my game CTD on me!..

Turn down shadows to the very lowest setting, and maybe turn off AA in game also.
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA
I uninstalled AC3 and then uninstalled NVIDIA's GeForce 310.54 Beta drivers and went back to the none beta drivers for my card with them!..
re-installing AC3 and well try the settings you recommended
after turning off AA and lowering settings I was able to do mission's in the frontier with no problem's, maybe removing the beta drivers helped too!..
I had to turn off AA from my NVIDIA control panel and made other changes there too!..

The absolute minimum for a processor is a Core 2 duo EB200 @2.06 GHz. it also states the game may have issues running on laptops as mobile versions are not supported simple put to improve the reliability you need to run it on a desktop PC
