On Bioware's forum there was a post theorized that the ending(s) were just Shepard's hallucination, possibly due to the indirect effect of Reaper's indoctrination.
This is NOT a spoiler just a theory though, but a very interesting one.
Hmm... I've seen that theory around a lot. Even during ME2 after Project Overlord I believe. But really... if people are upset over the endings as they are now, are they really going to be happy with an "it was all a dream" ending?
I mean, how far back do you take it? The ending sequence was a dream? The events after the Geth server mission were a dream (though you can actually bypass that mission, so not everyone will have had it)? Maybe the entire series has been Shepards dream?
I dunno, I just can't see a lot of people - myself included - being happy with that ending. It's good as a theory, but in practice I think it'll be shunned more than this ending.

I'll read the spoiler part when I've finished the game, so apologies if you've covered something I'm going to say.
Either way, I'll be severely disappointed if any part of the game turns out be be "just a dream". That's an even worse cop-out than killing everyone is.
I remember when TV shows and books did that. There'd be a whole show or book with all of this action, great stories, great characters, etc etc, and then at the end the main character would wake up. I'm not a fan of things where the main character dies (bar a few exceptions), but that's even worse. It makes everything you've gone through entirely pointless.
I'm curious to know what people think the alternative is though. I mean, if a part of the game was a dream, what was actually happening in reality? Are the Reapers still attacking the Galaxy?
The developers did say to save your ME3 game saves, so there is obviously going to be some DLC.
I'm still trying to figure out why the Normandy was leaving the Sol system, I mean they were in the fight for Earth. I don't see Joker just abandoning the fight. Not to mention how did your squad mates get on the Normandy when they were fighting on Earth. You can even have one of your squad on the final assault of the teleportation beam and they they are on the Normandy?
The story and writing for everything right up to where Shepard transports to the Citadel is great. Then all of a sudden things get real wonky. Either someone dropped the ball or there is some DLC that will explain it more.

Oh, yeah, I know there'll be DLC. I just meant there probably won't be any set after or during the endgame sequence. Which is a shame. Before the game was released, I was looking forward to seeing what the Galaxy would look like post-Reaper invasion.

More than likely they will do that with ME4, but maybe they will give us something with future DLC. Here is hoping anyways.
I'm with you.

I still have reservations on an ME4. But DLC's yeah but in what context am not sure. Am finding it hard to what they would do. Although I do not like having to wait to gain access to parts of the system. Its dam right annoying.

The communications tech who can connect you to your old squad is a nice touch too. Almost brought a tear to my eye.
There's a damn ninja in here cutting onions again.
The radio conversation between a doctor and a corporal in the field is haunting.

Just finished the first part of Priority Earth, and I have the say the approach to Earth and the first part of the mission is ****ing epic.

Yes those were nice touches, especially with Garrus and Liara
Mmk, just finished the game. I went with Synthesis. I... still don't see the big problem. As I've pointed out previously, though, I always expected Shepard to have to sacrifice himself to stop the Reapers, so maybe that played something in it. The only nitpick I have is that I took Tali and Garrus with me to get to the Crucible, so they were both on Earth, but in the final cutscene I saw Tali walk off the Normandy behind Joker and EDI. I think that's more of a plot hole though. Not that I'm complaining - I saw my three favorite characters alive, and it's easy to use my imagination that if Tali survived, the others did too.
I'm disappointed I didn't get the Shepard breathing scene... or do I have to go with Control/Destroy to get that? Or is it part of the NG+ extra scene?
Either way, there's no way going to be an ME4 in terms of a sneaky continuation of Shepard's story. The fact that the three different ending choices are so vastly different they'd have to make three full games to cover them. Unless they make a huge cop-out and assume everyone made the same choice, I think any future ME games are going to be set before ME1, or during/between the events of the three games.
My final verdict: great end to a great series. I'm sad to see it over, but I have no gripes.
"Tell me another story about the Shepard."
"It's getting late, but okay. One more story."
...I really hope so.
EDIT: As a side note, does anyone have any idea how to get the EMS to the 4k mark without MP? I only got to about 3750, and that's with completing every side quest and collecting every resource through scanning. I've been told it's possible to get higher.
Damn, figured out you have to take the destroy ending. I hate that... I don't wanna destroy the Geth. It'd also destroy EDI, since she's a synthetic lifeform.
