I am not getting much from EA or Bioware, but is a 2012 date. What quarter of 2012 is unknown. I should know by end of year and keep you posted.

A 2012 release date would contradict every interview which has brought up ME3. BW have specifically stated they're planning for a quicker turnaround time than between ME1 and 2, which was 2 years 2 months. 2012 would make the turnaround time equal, or even greater depending on which quarter.

It's also been mentioned the quicker release is possible due to ME3 being easier to complete due to there being no need to worry about continuity into a sequel as was the case with ME2.

If it is 2012 it will be a first quarter release. But, if it is 2011 it will be released near Christmas. EA loves releasing major games 2 weeks prior to Christmas. They have a habit of doing Christmas releases.

But, I think they used 2012 as a fallback date if any problems come about. IMDB is extremely accurate on release dates. And, gets them only through the publishers and developers.

Unless 2012 will be a release date for a movie. Since it just is Mass Effect (2012). Not Mass Effect 3 (VG) like all Video Games it is just Mass Effect (2012). More than likely a movie.

To be honest, user-editable sources such as IMDB is about as reliable as Wikipedia when it comes to items such as release dates (try referencing Wikipedia in a paper or some kind of official document and you'll face a s**tstorm of fire). Until the date is confirmed, any source claiming a date, even a rough one, or simply a year, is purely speculative (and most likely is an estimate based upon the typical development time of modern games).

Hell, even rough estimates given by BioWare themselves are speculative until they're deep into the implementation stages, but far more likely to be accurate.

That IMDB entry may very well refer to a movie, since there have been reports of BioWare having been approached about the subject of making an ME movie, but there's been nothing to say "yeah, we're doing it", so likely that entry has been submitted by an over-eager fan.
