Reach to be Bungie's Last Halo
UK, July 24, 2009 - Halo: Reach will be Bungie's final Halo game, with the company moving on to new projects following completion of the title next year.
"After Reach that's it for us," Bungie's Lars Bakken told IGN. "We're already working on a new IP that we can't talk about yet, I don't know when we'll be talking about it - when we're ready I suppose."
Bakken was cryptic as to the nature of Bungie's next game - though suggested that it may well step away from the first person mechanics that have defined the studio's output for the past decade; "If you look at Bungie's past we've done a lot of different styles - first person to third person to RTS - so it could be anything."
Future Halo games will be overseen by the recently revealed 343 Industries, which is headed up by former Bungie employee Frank O'Connor.
That's interesting. I didn't know Frankie was head of a new studio
So is this '343 Industry' a game developer like Bungie?
Found this on some site called develope-online
Bungie ex named as ‘343 Industries head' - Link
Bungie’s ex-lead writer for the Halo franchise, Frank O'Connor, has for the first time been named as “creative director for 343 Industries”
.
343 Industries was previously only rumoured to be the new Halo Division at Microsoft, though an LA Times interview with O'Connor cites the division as “the Microsoft division that oversees all Halo products.”
Last year Microsoft Game Studios hired high-profile talent to its internal Halo studio, snapping up the likes of former MGS4 assistant producer Ryan Payton and Bungie’s Frank O'Connor.
343’s O'Connor was speaking in an interview as Microsoft announced the production of seven short anime films, entitled Halo Legends, with the aid of five Japanese production houses.
343 will do a good job with halo, im glad they have someone reasonable in charge of it.
Exactly what I was thinking.
