How do you enable cheats?

I've just installed this game again to play it again but I forgot on how to enable cheats. The cheats that are listed DON'T WORK for me and when I use the help command it lists only three commands:save, exit, and clear. I remember when I played this game before those cheats didn't work, because I had to do it differently to enable them and since it's been a long time since i played this game I forgot on how to enable them. Can anybody help me in this little matter? -
