I think that for something to be a sport, it needs a significant establishment in the public sphere.
Football, soccer, tennis, auto racing...hundreds of millions of people watch them, play them, devote their lives to them.
Whereas something like lawn darts...
Yeah, but using that same logic would make halo a sport. <_<
I don't see why people get up-in-arms over the distinction though, just because someone thinks something is a game and not a sport doesn't mean it's a personal slight against that person.
Because calling something that I enjoy very much, not a sport doesn't seem right to me. The following is this whole argument summed up.
"No Darkish, paintball is not a sport. I don't care if you've spent hundreds of dollars on equipment and whatever and you are sore for a few days after playing and it hurts when you get hit and it is physically demanding and good exercise and sociable"
"Well **** you then"
Okay, let me sum up how the argument actually went:
Guy 1: Guys I really don't think 'X' is a sport.
Guy 2: WHAT? If you don't think X is a sport, then you must not think Y is a sport! That insults me on a very personal level despite the fact that you are just giving your opinion on the subject.
Guy 1: It's just an opinion, don't take it so seriously.
Guy 2: Now I don't like you so angry words followed by cursing
Guy 1: wtf.
Guy 3: I will not be 18 when I meet you.
No Darkish, paintball is not a sport. I don't care if you've spent hundreds of dollars on equipment and whatever and you are sore for a few days after playing and it hurts when you get hit and it is physically demanding and good exercise and sociable because I spent $1200 on Civil War reenacting equipment, you're sore for a few days after normal events and weeks after hardcore events, it hurts after firing three hundred rounds and marching fifty miles through scrubland, it's physically demanding and good exercise and the social network is extensive but it's not a sport.
I don't even know if that post was written with irony, sarcasm or satire in mind. =/

It was written with "no periods" in mind.

Civil Ware reenactments are not sports...because you probably have a script...right. The South always loses...every time. How can you call it a sport if you know who is going to win. That's just silly.
Paintball is a sport.
Bye.
