I have played the game some, though I haven't gotten into it fully at this time. I miss the cheat console as many others do and this was another Steam special. Meaning you had to load it using steam. Steam is ok but since I don't play online I really could do without it. The only advantage I find is, that I no longer have to have the cd to play. I can't say I'm crazy about the two second clock you have when choosing a cheat or something from the trainer. If you punch in a cheat and then try to find the city and select what you want it to do, you better be super fast or it won't work. It's hard enough selecting the city or whatever then the cheat. Two seconds doesn't give you a lot of time to think. There is some cheats that give you more time but all in all, I sometimes think the game people are trying to find a way to eliminate cheats and trainers altogether. If this happens then the gamming industry just lost someone who buys 40 or more games per year. My motto is: I will not buy a game that cannot be modded, use a trainer or allow the use of cheats. So if they eventually do this they will lose me and a lot of others along with me I'm sure.
When I use the trainer, I'm already clicked on the city where I want to recruit or upgrade. As long as I'm not on the recruit tab when I hit the cheat, then it works like a charm and the two second rule has never affected me. Once you hit the 1 turn recruit cheat, it's active for the entire time you're in the recruit tab area.
When using the 1 turn upgrade, I use the cheat while in the construction tab and it works like a charm.
Not sure why you're having such a hard time.
