I also have the illegal version, which i use to play the game, sad since i bought the game also. I agree i pay for good games lol. There shouldn't be any difference between the two versions, but believe it or not my cracked version works more smoothly. My paid for version crashes some times, and i've never updated the cracked version works like a charm, with everything on ultra. The cracked version according to scene group, is a non released version i believe with some demo version files. The store bought version, i think CA released on purpose with a crap load of bugs to slow down pirating.

The crap load of bugs is probably the result of Steam software messing with the games codes.

I've not had any problems with my special forces empires total war. Not one crash yet. The only thing which has happened to me at the moment is one of my motherboard's ram slots has gone bust. Which is super annoying as the game is really lagging for me now using my 3GB (instead of 4GB). It never ran perfectly perfect but it was alot better than its running right now. Reason probably be the fact the ram is running in single channel and not dual channel.

I know this is not the topic for it but the trainer, once activated, slows my pc considerably. I only use the trainer for 1 turn technology but my battles are noticibly more lagful. That was when I had 4GB btw.

The plethora of bug reports/complaints merely show that CA hasn't changed and didn't do any extensive play-testing before release.

For me, my Great Britain grand campaign is now completely unplayable due to the inability to select my fleets without sending it crashing to the desktop. I should have saved on the money and waited at least it was stable in the first place...

Oh well, I can always go play as the Swedes or Prussia.

Same problem with ships. Crashes back to windows.
