Well after some experimenting i do believe this method does not work. While the program extracts and can recombine we still just dont know enough yet. Ive tried everything from switching the floats to ints and then putting a value behind it, but nothing happened. Not even a ctd.
Now what is cool is that once i extracted the data, i removed the actual compressed game.packaged file and spore still ran. Then i deleted the folder that i had just extracted and spore started then CTD. So it is looking at the folder, so maybe at least we dont have to recombine everything to get a mod to work.
Maybe its a little progress, or maybe its nothing.

maybe there is a command line parameter for "reparsing" the scripts (what I guess the files are). anyone here who knows how to find out such stuff? *g*

Ive gotten a strange side effect from editing that game package file. For some reason, gravity seems to be a lot lighter than it used to be, i can now fly high in the sky with my winged creature. I think i can almost get to the top atmosphere. Its kinder cool, since in tribal stage, my units fly over to the enemy camps only touching ground to land.
The only annoying thing is that other creatures do it too, i try to attack something, and it jumps 100ft into the air, though aerial combat is interesting, my guy did an aerial kick in mid air which was awesome

I thought I would post my success with the changes that geos suggested. Here are the changes I made:
The numbers at the end of the lines are seconds, so the first line is 7200 seconds (2 hours). The original setting was 600 seconds (10 minutes).
I thought this clarification might help people figure out how long they want to set things to. I did test this for over an hour and had no attacks or other emergencies.

did you repacked the files or did you also tried it without repacking (renaming/removing/deleting the spore_game.package)?

And these have to be entered into the cheat console for the game to retain them?

I wonder if you repacked it or not and what the settings would be to completely turn it off. Just not interested in eco disasters and pirate attacks, they should have added an option to turn them completely off to make give people the choices how they want to play this game.

because you set the time between attacks you could set it to 24 hours or something..if you really play this long, you may can handle one raid/desaster. you could also try setting it to zero. there is a 50:50 chance wheter it will turn off the raid/disasters or you get killed in an instant (will try that as soon as i get home)
