A broadband connection does fine, too, and it doesn'y necessarily have to be a wireless connection.

It depends on what you have actually.

If you have a wireless router, first make sure that it is compatible with Xbox Live. Link

Then all you do is turn on your 360, (I'm assuming you have a 360) and select "Join Xbox Live." Then create your account and upgrade to Gold if you'd like to.

If you have a wired internet connection, then you have to have an Ethernet cable plug from your 360 into your modem I believe.

There are also loads of support pages you can look at here. Link

also, if the cable is too short, (this happened to me when i still lived in the states) you can buy a wireless adaptor thingy.

Another thing that needs mention, if your .net passport has you marked as under the age of 18, you'll need a parents email address to finish the sign up.
