    - Cancelled the firing sequence altogether
    - The installation awaited remote detonation from the Ark.
    - It sent out a signal to the other remaining Halo rings, putting them into a critical standby state, awaiting activation from the Ark, as part of its fail-safe protocol.

    I believe that it was hinted in the first game by 343 in the control room of installation 04.

    But then confirmed in the last game of the last level when 343 said "You are Forerunner."
