I've been trying to mess with the controls.ini file to see if I can get any of the DBG_xxxx stuff to do anything interesting, but no luck so far.
Aside from what the trainers give you, there's two other things I've managed with the trainer tutorial from here... using tsearch I managed to get inf. ammo for the plasma cannon (which the trainers already do) but... with more ammo loaded in the clip. For some reason the two trainers I tried both only have a couple of shots in the clip of the plasma cannon while inf. ammo is on. This is ok for normal fire, but for alt-fire it's no good! - You have to have like at least about a 1/3 of a clip full for alt-fire to function!
So I got that going... and the other thing the trainers don't do is inf. ammo for the Surge Gun. I got that going as well.
Unfortunately, since I'm running Vista 64bit, the utility the 2nd half of the trainer tutorial uses won't run (Trainer Maker Kit) - so I can't make something for other people to use... and I have to run Tsearch each time I want to do it, but that's not a huge deal.
The -last- thing, that I really want is to be able to spawn a weapon... or somehow get any weapon at any part of the game. This is why I'm trying to mess with controls.ini... but I suspect the Debug commands in there (DBG_xx) also need some sort of activation... maybe command line, or something else, because so far not much luck... Of course it's also possible they're completely disabled in the released version. (hopefully not!)
Starting with an inf. ammo Surge Gun might be fun... the only other thing besides that, that might be interesting is noclip... but that's not nearly as much potential fun as getting weapons whenever you want.
Along that line of thought - I've been able to get a thunderbolt near the beginning of the game. When you get on the first turret - there's guys that come at you outside that have thunderbolts. So if you slow/stop time and kill them with a carbine alt-fire shot just behind them... doing it just right, you can cause the thunderbolt to be blown from their grasp in your direction... and when it gets close enough, you can "pick it up" right out of the air.
They don't use plasma cannons, though so the first chance for plasma cannons still seems to be on the road trip... and the first chance for surge guns is still pretty far through the game, at the Factory. (and it seems you can't kill the first few - are they different, or is that just part of the game... like how some tanks/vehicles are completely indestructible...?)
If anyone has any thoughts or hears anything else about how I might get one of those, (or both/all) weapons sooner, or near the beginning of the game... please let me know!
