Well, Assuming most of the family is pitching in I'd say its worth the money. Most people say get a 360 over the Wii, but if this purchase is to be a family based decision a Wii would be a better choice. (as halo 3 and the like is basically out of the question in a "family" environment) Same ordeal with the gaming PC comment, only more-so, nearly all the games worth playing will be M rated, that and there is no (decent) multiplayer unless you own a second PC or play with strangers over the Internet. On top of all that, a worth while gaming PC runs well over the price of the Wii, you could probably buy 5 or so Wiis for the price of a nice hefty gaming PC.
Wii sports is rated E as regards to your first question.

I'm a good nintendo fan and I don't even have any new console but for a family the WII just very good believe me besides the 360 don't have that much 2 player games or anything from that sort and they said it before the good games on there way the Super Smash Bros. Brawl and dont forget Mario Party 8 and the Wii Sports can be great .
