Now this is my opinion but i think the word "football" is better associated with what the UK and rest of the world define football as. American football is tackling, throwing, running and hardly any kicking. So it doesnt deserve the term "football". The Barclays English Premier League DOES, however.

But its globally recognized as football.

And the reason why the Irish call it soccer is because they have gaelic football, which is a combo of normal football and rugby.

hmm..its kinda like Australia. Obviously South America call it football and some parts of North America call it football.
