I went Alliance because my cousin who convinced me to play was alliance, but to be honest horde does do alot better at pvp, they tend to organize better, and exicute their strategy better. If PvP isn't your thing though, the PvE with either is pretty similar.

For the Horde!

First alliance, now horde, never looked back. Reminds me that I need to get back to Wow.

I was ally once but i left the ally becouse when doing instances u have to be lvl 80(on wotlk) and to compare them its like this:

Ally:
All is true kids play on ally, they dont know how to play like when u attack them with horde they are like: Dont kill me please. And they dont have some good racial traits.

Horde:
More mature play on the horde, they know how to play and they have strong players so they dont get killed alot. They have good racial traits and they dont live in castles and other modern things.



Oh and i forgot. All of the ally dont have a leader they dont listen to anyone even the king of stormwind(not the kid). While on the hordes side they all obey Thrall. And Thrall doesn't bother the ally like attacking them. He is shown to be peaceful.

Well to go against the majority of posters in this one, im Alliance and thats mainly due to friends i have acquired through playing alliance, and unless they all either stop playing or go horde im staying alliance. But overall people can argue what faction has the best pve progress or pvp. Atm. its horde but blizzard might do another weird change and all of a sudden its alliance. Gear classes and such all the same just racial traits that differ. And Think there are just as many kids on horde as there are on alliance and that is not a bad thing due to them actually knowing how to play the game (well most of em).

I'm playing Horde now, but when the next expansion comes out with the Worgen race for alliance, I'll probably switch to alliance.

Well, I have mainly Alliance pgs... but also two BE... And I have to say that if i could I would make a third faction, preety much like the Kirin Tor or Shattrath that have members of all factions or what Jaina would like to happen...
About the original post... it depends on which class you'd like to play...
Mages~~> Either Gnomes, Undeads or Blood Elves (I have a human one and his racial talents are crap, at least the undead one can eat corpses...)
Warriors~~> Humans(one), Orcs and Undeads
Warlocks~~> Humans, Undeads, Gnomes
Paladins~~> Draenei(have one), Humans, Blood Elves(Have one too)
Hunters~~> Dwarves(had one... had to make space for the DK), Nightelves, Orcs
DKs~~> Any race, pretty much... but Gnomes DK are... an amusing sight... (I have a human one)
Rogues~~> Absolutely Nightelves and Gnomes, with a side of Orcs
Druids~~> Taurens, Nightelves
Shamans~~> Orcs and Draenei.
