I'll toss my hat into this... 🙂😃

My first (real) computer which my Mom purchased for me was an Apple IIe in 1984. Local HS purchased a bunch too. My friend and I took it to a whole new level. By that I mean we could write in assembly language when necessary.

We installed a 3d party kit which included altered ROM with NMI capabilities. We were avid readers (with subscription) to a magazine called Computist--formally Hardcore Computist. That may give you a huge clue as to what we were doing..

Yes, we were teenagers! LOL We didn't need to buy expensive software. One of our good friends was enrolled at a university. He could hook us up with anything.

IIRC, we did purchase games when we could just for the prized box and manuals.

HS computer teachers gave class assignment to be completed in two weeks. The two of us handed in the assignment on day two, complete with advanced algorithms above and beyond the requirement.. We were never pestered as they gave us wide latitude.

    Those were fun times!
