enabling dev mode disables achievements, so if you care about them you're welcome to use SAM (or don't use dev mode).
Dev mode allows to set the PC's age to any number
Update: after hotfix 7 dev mode doesn't disable achievement (at least majority of them)

How do you edit the age using dev mode? I have looked everywhere and I cant seem to edit anything since I started the game. Thanks!

It seems you've to start new game in developers' mode to actually use it.
Afterwards go to character sheet (all numbers are currently editable) and press 0 near Age stat. Can click 1, 5 or 20 afterwards to set it to any reasonable number

Lets you check a box to unlock the achiv, for what ever game you have on Steam.

Another tip for save game editing:
Find
"calamities":[...]
and replace it with
"calamities":[]
In other words, delete everything in the brackets.
This removes all enemy cards and therefore resets the thread level to the base level.
I tested this and it has no negative effects on the game.

Also as an info: You can use a JSON-"prettify" tool/service (like JSONLint.com) to make the JSON more readable. The game doesn't care, as long as it remains a valid JSON.
