I am trying to find a good virus protection to use with trainers on my computer. I want to use one other than the one Microsoft gives

Protection is always a good idea for those concerned about things they don't know enough about. The downside about protection, in general, is there are levels of protection, so what works for one person might not be best for you. If it's overkill, it will slow down your computer. If it's inadequet you may find yourself with infections.

Think of it like body armor, the more protected the heavier it'll be to carry. You would choose your armor for the task.

Light Free would be Avast (Just the AV aspect you don't need all the other bloatware) and/or Malwarebytes. **Just an opinion, not an endorsement ** Personally I don't run AV, but my setup is a bit more advanced than most.

Remember at the end of the day, the best Antivirus is good common sense.
Also if you do go with AV make sure you add our Trainers to the Exclusion list. Instructions for popular AV can often be found here:www.cheathappens.com/virus_warning.asp

Asking about an AV is a personal preference just like the color of your underwear.

What exactly is it you need or want from a security software? What shall it do the MS Security Center (incl Defender) doesn't provide in your opinion?

You want to use one other than the one MS gives. Most security software products disable Defender when being installed. However, some (crucial) options of the Security Center still run alongside another sec software installation.

The whole Windows Security Center on Windows 10 has become quite good and doesn't need to be replaced with anything else. Lacking all those shiny buttons and menus some other sec software offers doesn't mean the others are so much better.

Take a look here -> Link or here -> Link and you'll see that the default Windows 10 Sec Center is on par with some of the best in the field. - Most software companies offer trial versions or time limited versions of their software with full functionality. If you know how to, set up a Hyper-V virtual machine (or with free third-party software VirtualBox or VMware Workstation Player) and install them trials in there. Get a grip of what they look and feel and what they can do and how it is implemented.

FYI, certain sec software products broke Windows 10 feature updates (like in 1809 to 1903) in the past or are not compatible with older Win 10 versions (e.g. 1803 or older), if you don't like to keep your OS up to date because of MS' slightly problems with their updates.

And last but not least, sec software may tear security holes in your system on purpose (and with your consent) or upload suspicious files from your PC automatically to the sec software companies' server for further investigation (sometimes you can disable this option like in MS Defender).
Good for health, bad for education.
