Is it safe to use game trainers on any steam single player game even if you're online?

    Ask the game devs.

If I were a game developer and my game would be online, or would have an online mode, I would not want people to use trainers, as it could potentially ruin the game for others, so my answer to your question is no, it is not safe.

I've never had any issues with trainers in single-player steam games (non-Valve ones at least), but then again I deliberately avoid using online ranking/score functions in games that have them when I use trainers, at least in the ones that allow you to opt out of online ranking. Not because I'm worried about being banned or anything, but because I don't care about scores and don't want to skew the scores with my cheating, not that I think it makes much of a difference since I'm betting most who use trainers don't care about that.

It just strikes me as odd to have enforced/automatic online scoring in single player PC games when trainers are so easy to get, even if people have no interest in doing it for the ranking.

Oh, my bad friend. I misunderstood, my apologies. It should be safe to stay online, as long as the game is only singleplayer there is nothing you should be scared about, at least I don't believe so, because I did use trainers in SP games while I was online on Steam. 🙂
