We need repeatable instructions for the sometimes it doesn't.

Usually the layer research I find gets an instant researched while the normal ones like heat improvements or to unlock buildings take the normal amount. I think very rarely do those normal researched get instant, and it might be particular ones but I am usually distracted so I haven't been taken notes of which ones actually get instant research with the option turned on.

FIGURED IT OUT! The instant research option ONLY works if you have highlighted the workshop building. If you pick one to research but don't click the workshop again, it doesn't work. Basically got to SEE the progress for the progress to be cheated with.
