does the option to add research points crash the game?

I dunno, the more important question would be, does it crash it for you?

Yup , the research points instantly crash the game.
More than likely its cause the game just got updated to "A New Hell" a few days ago.

I found a way to make this trainer to work. You need to delist/disable ALL DLCs of Helldivers. See attached - How to delist all DLCs in Steam. - Go to Helldivers' properties and go to DLC tab. Delist all DLCs.
