PWiz posted the step by step for you when you asked that in the other thread:
"Click on the down arrow hotkey next to the option name. A new window comes up. Click the hotkey dropdown again. It will says "Select Key". Press the key you want to assign. It will says "Activated" and return you to the trainer screen."
I just started playing a few days ago and did the exact same thing and it worked fine for me. Also, they have to be single keys. You can't use things like Ctrl + S or Shift-B, they can only be one character.
