Has anyone out there been unable to connect to the Dark Soul II servers the first time the played it? I have been looking around and trying to figure out why I can't play online, I am not the only one in this issue. Any reason or question that anyone knows in here? I never used the trainer online since well I never used it at all since I played the game for the first time...was unable to connect on a fresh clean start and everything....what's wrong?

    1) Make sure you are connected to Steam (the Steam connection goes down A LOT).

    2) Make sure you don't have a VAC ban (a VAC ban on ANY game will prevent you playing Dark Souls 2 online).

Are you serious, I had that van ban on a lowly half life one game for modding. Seriously and thats gonna keep me from going on online from a hack that long ****ing ago. That's total bull****, is there anyway I can get that off from their support? I mean I stopped after that and that thing now is a curse of which I can never play. Thats utter bull****!!!!!!!! That's like a big waste of money I don't want have to make a whole new damn account on steam cause of that!!!!!

It's only temporary. The have posted in the following sticky on the steam forums that they are aware of this and are trying to fix it. It's not intentional:

you said change account doesn't change ip address.

then i borrow my friend steam account to play i still can't connect to game server?
    are you sure?

VAC bans are account based. Not IP based. You have to remember that not everyone has a static IP address. Besides the Steam support articles on getting VAC banned clearly state:

If you choose to purchase a new copy of the game, please register it or install it under a newly-created Steam account.

Now, that said; I've been using the trainer with the game fully blocked from going online. I've also archived up my offline save game and rename it before using a separate online save game without the trainer.

I have had no problems connecting to servers except when the Steam connection is lost. Losing that connection has nothing to do with VAC and everything to do with Valve needing more server capacity.
