My good old AMD HD6950 wants to retire (tells my by overheating terribly and giving error messages) and the budget doesn't allow for a complete new system. That will have to wait until summer (planning on building a nice 8core system. So, I need to buy the card for the new system in advance. Since the old mainboard doesn't have pci-e 3.0, my question is: Will the 2.0 performance drop be recognizable if I hook a 3.0 card to the system? My choice is the Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD-GA (rev. 2.0). Thanks in advance

I asked this question many times on many boards and cards.
They will run fine. Was the answer I got.

Thanks a lot. I know it's gonna run but will it affect performance just a little bit or heavily?

It will be fine, 3.0 cards are backwards compatible with 2.0 boards.
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

I put an AMD HD 7970 in this 2.0 computer, Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme X9770 and the performance really improved. It has given me an additional year of good gaming so far and it's still going strong with but very few exceptions.
