While EA are pretty bad, it doesn't mean you have to avoid all of their games, as they do produce some good ones.
When buying from EA just remember some things like:
- Don't pre-order
- Don't buy until you've researched the known issues (wait about a week after release to get a good idea of whats wrong)
- Do research to find out if it has the gameplay features you want
These sort of guidelines have helped me get what I want when buying a game from EA and other companies (who are just as likely to do screw you around, just on a lesser scale) and I haven't been disappointed in a while now.
Oh and one more thing: Avoid the hype. It's designed to make you interested in the game without finding out facts about it.

I have to say. Do not run away from Pre-orders for EA Games. Never had an issue with them at all.
@zorrodude - I have to say I like the Origin Client. One feature that I do like is being able to update myself. Plus DL speeds on there has been 3x what steam could do for me.

You have to admit that The Sims series has always been pretty damn good. The next base game looks to be even better, with way more customisation options than before.
That being said, I'm still angry with EA regarding Mass Effect 3. No, I do not blame Bioware. The game reeks to me of being released far too early and it's obvious the developers were pushed to finish quickly. The initial release of the game features choppy animation and various other sloppy mistakes that weren't present in the previous ME games. The fact that the DLC released since, which by comparison had no pressure to be released quickly, completes the game just proves the point. The DLC for ME2 expanded on the story but the game already felt complete when you left the Omega 4 relay. On the other hand Aria asked us to help her retake Omega early in Mass Effect 3, and it was months before we even got that part of the story.
Personally I loved Origins AND DA2, but I'm fond of both combat styles. I played both on multiple platforms and I consider Origins style combat better for PC and DA2 style better for console.
Oh I pity you dear friend for loving DA2! Sorry but I must put you down with a Redeemer to the noggin.
