My only gripe with the setting is that, like you said, the architecture of that period doesn't lend itself to the sprawling cities of the previous AC games, and there certainly weren't any buildings of the size we're used to climbing around.
It's a shame we don't get a female protagonist too. We know there were female assassins, why not a female head assassin? Ah well.
Also, it won't be "hacking Brits to bits". It's been confirmed that there will be Assassins and Templars on BOTH sides of the conflict. The Assassin we control is American, but nationality is meaningless to the Brotherhood. They're also bringing back puzzles similar to those by Clay (16), so I don't think there'll be "Desmond memories" like in Revelations. Those have served their purpose anyway.
The game's not out until October I don't see them making a thread until then. Maybe this should be our official AC3 topic?
Edit: On female assassins; I think we've not had one because the Assassin's appearance is always based on Desmond and a female assassin would be harder for him to synchronise with. We've seen plenty of awesome female assassins though, Ezio's daughter Flavia apparently grew up to be head of the Order or something.

That never actually occurred to me... good point on the female assassin.
I'm glad to hear it's not going to be a "hack Brits to bits". Not because I'm a Brit - I play games where I kill people of all nationalities, Brits included - but because I see enough ridiculous "US vs UK/EU" threads on the net without having one of my favourite game series joining in.
I think it will be something similar; There will be Assassins on both sides loyal to their Order taking down the Templars making the mess. I think 16's puzzles in II made it clear that Templars orchestrated plenty of wars.
Though I'm sure there'll be plenty of dumb threads anyway. More people seem concerned about how they'll portray Native Americans. This seems a silly fear, since Ubisoft always try to be as respective and informed as they possibly can eg the Gypsy woman in Revelations and the various races and faiths shown in the first game.
Aye, they may have terrible tastes in DRM, but the one thing you can say for sure about them is that their games - or the AC series specifically - is respectful to the people and cultures they recreate.
I can't see a big part for Native Americans though. Not in that setting at least. Maybe they'll represent a faction for missions/blending, like the Gypsies as you mentioned.
