Some forums use this system so that if a post has been rated down a lot it will automatically hide from the thread. Members can choose to see the message by clicking on a button (usually "show" button).
I think it should be left as it is (no effect from voting up/down) otherwise it would be abused.
Trust is a fragile thing. Once trust is lost, it can be impossible to recover. Those we're closest to can betray us,and total strangers can come to our rescue. In the end, most people decide to trust only themselves. It really is the simplest way to keep from getting burned.

Can we get notifications sent to us somehow every time someone likes or dislikes our posts?
(just kidding)
Great feature though...looking forward to what you plan on doing with it next!

We thought about having posts with > 10 thumbs down show up on mod overview somehow (like an auto report post feature).

Yeah that's a good idea.

Starting to remind me of a site I used to visit, Funnyjunk or something? They had this thumbs system so it would show up on their profile, for reputation and whatnot. But also if a comment got too many thumbs downs, it would be hidden. Youtube does that too.
But it's a pretty neat feature. Now people can just thumbs up if they agree, instead of replying with 'I agree' and then remembering that that kind of reply isn't really allowed or something -.-
