Depends on the achievement and the game. I won't grind for it, but if the achievement is fun to get, and keeps me entertained, then yes. For instance, in Assassin's Creed 2, there were two achievements that most didn't get.
The first was to solve all 20 parts of Subject 16's video, which I did. I found it fun to walk around, and hunt for them. And when I find each one, what do I get rewarded with? A puzzle! And puzzles = more fun.
The second one was to find all 100 feathers in the environment. I did this because I loved the multiple parkour paths to reach each one, and I could spend hours wandering the cities without getting bored.
However, if there's an achievement like, "Kill 1,000,000 people", and I've only killed 2,000 in the course of the game, then **** that.

Only time i ever look at achievements is when something with a weird name pops up, you have pop'd the weasel or something weird, then i might go check wtf that was and then return to my game.
I am a completionist and i hate the way they try to force you to go online in regards to achievements, win a ranked game vs another player and that crap.
So in general im not a fan of achievements and like someone else stated only reason why i would do an achievement knowingly, would be a easter egg thing or some ingame reward that is usefull somehow.
When it comes to getting trophies, I try to get them if I can but if I can't its no big deal. I am NOT a trophy ***** as I would NEVER buy a game just for the trophies, but I do sometimes use them as a measuring stick to see if I've done all I can in the game. I guess you can put me in the completionist category.

I like completing them to know that I can do them. I love the ones that show you have good skills at certain games, like "Mile High Club" on COD 4. Yes, I have it.
