I guess they can't make every single episode into a mind-blowing plot-breaker, or the series would be twice as short. Fillers are there to keep us on the edge of our seats while waiting for the more important episodes and to distract us from potentially vital things that have been cleverly smuggled in.
I don't mind them as long as there aren't that many.

Exactly. I kind of miss the old days when an entire series could be devoted to a single storyline. Think the last two episodes as a 12 episode or so long story, rather than just a two parter. Then again, I think episodes were only 30 mins back then.
Ah well.

Very misleading title. I thought this was going to be all about River Song.
I think the best Doctor Who episodes are the ones that use the least amount of CGI and flashy effects. This week was a lot better than last week's, even though it's still kind of a filler.
'The only water in the forset is the river' ? Any ideas?

It's gotta be some kind of twist... like the river is River Song, and the only water in the forrest is something like the only way to survive. I dunno... I just pulled that outta my butt <.<.
I kinda hate things like that... there's making sure your audience wants to watch the next episode to find something out, but then there's being completely obvious about it.
I agree about the misleading title though. Then again, the TARDIS is the only constant "companion" through every iteration of the Doctor... she in a way it kinda is like his wife.

Bump! New episode in an hour then champions league final good night of tv.

The ending of last night's Doctor Who was interesting, to say the least.

Skyheart, having just watched The Almost People (Rebel Flesh 2), and seen the accursed Continued sign, I was reminded that, though each episode usually stands alone, they are doing a great job of running a theme through each season, like Doctor Donna, Bad Wolf and so forth. In fact, I can't think of a 2005 reboot season that Doesn't have some thread through it.

I think it's so that we cope with the few terrible aspects of the show and keep watching.
Examples of terrible aspects:
Plot holes. Forgotten characters. Amy Pond.
