Steam should update your Game automatically. To get sure look in your Game Folder (...\Steam\steamapps\common\mafia ii\pc) -> Mafia Executable Properties. There you can see Version Info.
Correct, the game did update, but the version shown in the .exe file didn't change. So its pretty hard to check if the game did actually update at your computer.
There is a way to see if you have the right version or not.
Download the 2 promo trainers at CheatScapes from CJB. Check if the promo trainer says "Game Found" or "Game Found, but wrong version".

Anybody knows when the trainer for Mafia II will be compatible with STEAM gaming sysgem ? because I would really appreciate to be able to use it too :/
Yeah this game has given me a headache too! But I can tell you and I hope this helps that the latest version of the trainer that was uploaded to the CheatHappens website yestrday has worked for me without any problems so you might want to give it a try. Of course when I was running with the latest trainer I had just reinstalled the game and was NOT using a no CD/DVD fix.
