Yeah there were several games, but it were driver problems, which were hotfixed after few hours/days.
nvidia also had similar problems, just with other games. As i said at last generation nvidia was bit better, but ATI had better prices. At this generation it is reverse. Exception are GTX470 & 480, which are around 10% faster, but needs 1,5x more power. (GTX480 -> more than 5970 dual GPU) Anyway in some segment ATI have better products in others nvidia.
At the end they are equally, because both have some advantages & disadvantages.
ATI owns Nvidia in Price/Performance and you can't say anything about that. My card is as good and sometimes better than the gtx 285 and I paid half the price.
Most of the people complaining on ATI cards that I saw where doing so when the cards came out and didn't even have updated drivers. If you don't give a card the time to get the updates, Nvidia or ATI no mather the brand, will have problems.
