Sorry everyone but I have to agree with FireflyPoi on this one.

Edit:

I have nothing against Steam and to be truthful I never had a problem with it like I said before.

The main argument people have here is that their games are updated automatically via Steam, so their trainers then stop working.

1. Steam likely doesn't approve of the whole trainers thing, but Steam updating games automatically as default isn't really an anti-trainer mechanism.

2. Automatic Updates are absolutely awesome, they tend to fix a multitude of bugs, without them if there we no updates people would be complaining the games suck because they're buggy. Either that or have to search the net for legitimate updates.

3. The thing being complained about can be easily disabled. (which I covered on page 2)

Looking a gift-horse in the mouth for lack of a better expression. Complaining about things that have an easy fix, and generally being whiney for no legitimate reason.

If they'd had issues with being charged and getting no game out of it, lost card details, hacked bank accounts, identify theft due to Steam's security (none of which I've ever heard of happening), I'd understand and be totally on board with the Steam-hate.

But they're complaining about a service which is quite frankly pretty damn amazing. I love automatic updates. So what if they stop the trainer working? If the game was designed for you to cheat you'd have cheat codes and not need a trainer. Wait a few days for an update and stop being so damn impatient. :/

If this is still too much for people to cope with, simply don't buy steampowered games, or stop buying games all together, problem solved.

I fully agree what on what you said, alot of people dont understand what updates are for. They just think its for protection against trainers hacks etc. It is partly for that yes.

Mostly its for better game play like you said before. Plus it keeps all the drivers up to date so everything will work together instead having stuff out of date. Which I know from exp. does not work well with your computer.

Thats one of the reason alot of games go out of date. Reason why os systems have the compatibility option. To keep alot of the old programs you have working. Thats one of the reason for updating to keep up with microsoft.

Trust me if they didnt do updates there will be so many errors in the system it wouldnt be funny....

If you really want to boycott make a list of stuff you think is wrong with Steam. Have people sign it make sure its over 1,000 people. Then send a copy to Steam then they have to fix the problems lol. Most of all, all those people have to do what they say or it be pointless. If they keep using steam it just shows what you try to do is pointless.

Edit:

One last thing give CH some credit for bring out trainers fast has they can for updating the trainers to help us out. They dont have to do what they do, I am greatful what they do. I am sure if the game been updated trainer does not work. Just tell them they will bring one out when they can. Just give them time. If you cant wait that long learn how. It does help in life too.

The biggest problem we have with Steam, apart from the dictatorship behavior, is that in South Africa we pay A LOT for bandwidth and the we do not have the high speed lines like abroad. So, now you pay, say R500 (about $80-$90) for a new title only to have to download another 1gb of data to play the title (resulting in about another R500 for the download) and then you have to stay connected to play, which disconnects the whole time causing you to take your copy of the game and BURN it out of frustration. So that is a cost of about $180 just to play a game, excluding all the UPDATES Steam just love to send out. In the end it just not viable to play or buy PC games anymore. When I buy a game and I see it's Steam, I return it. This results in more and more people boycotting Steam in SA and either, pirating the games or going for console games. PC games are dieing a slow death in South Africa and what the gaming companies are losing millions because of it. It's a no win situation for both parties. It's very sad. I have always paid for my games, but thx to Steam and them wanting to stop piracy I have actually started to play illegal copies because of it. They are going about it the wrong way and killing PC gaming. DOWN WITH STEAM!!!

Dictatorship behaviour? I didnt quite understand what you experienced in the way of dictatorship behaviour.

As for the bandwidth problem, answer is above. If you dont want updates, when you install them, go to game properties and turn them off. Also, steam has a work in offline mode, so you dont HAVE to be connected to the internet to play your steam games.

My suggestion to you? If you don't want updates, start steam in offline mode (with the internet unplugged) and install your DVD/CD's then, and go to game properties (refer to my post on page 2) and turn off automatic updates. Not only can you then play if offline, you can also not worry about it downloading updates for that game anymore.

You don't HAVE to have the internet connection just to USE steam. You don't HAVE to stay connected to play, when steam can't find a connection, as long as you have steam save your password, you get a "START IN OFFLINE MODE" button next to the "RETRY CONNECTION" button.

Steam aren't killing PC gaming at all, it's just peoples attitudes. If you want to buy a game and it's Steam, you still have a connection, turn off updates then you won't HAVE to download to play. Steam doesn't HAVE to be connected unless you want to play multiplayer.

Edit:

Oh, and last time I checked consoles force you to update them as well. <3

Yeah I know all this. This does not change the fact that with most Steam titles in SA you have to download +1gb of data just to be able to play the game for the 1st time, EXCLUDING the updates after you have achieved this.

Lost planet, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, Modern Warfare 2, Mafia 2 to name but a few all require massive data downloads from Steam to play it for the first time. That just sucks the meatball.

Console games in SA you DO NOT have to update to play. You simply stick the disc in and play. No internet connection required for 99% of all console titles.

AND

With most of the new titles STEAM releases in SA you HAVE TO BE CONNECTED ALL THE TIME. If you're connection drops, the game hangs and kicks you out.

In the UK it's not an issue because you have the network infrastructure and this does not affect you, come here and you will be in a living hell trying to play your Steam games. Don't knock it if you don't know anything about it.
