I play 99% of my steam games in Offline Mode quite regularly actually, and a lot of my titles ARE new ones like Dead Rising 2 etc, they've never said 'You must be connected to the internet to play this game' apart from for activation purposes first time, I find it hard to believe that Steam changed the fact you don't have to be connected to play games in offline mode just for one country. :/

Sorry everyone but I have to agree with FireflyPoi on this one.

Edit:

I have nothing against Steam and to be truthful I never had a problem with it like I said before.

The main argument people have here is that their games are updated automatically via Steam, so their trainers then stop working.

1. Steam likely doesn't approve of the whole trainers thing, but Steam updating games automatically as default isn't really an anti-trainer mechanism.

2. Automatic Updates are absolutely awesome, they tend to fix a multitude of bugs, without them if there we no updates people would be complaining the games suck because they're buggy. Either that or have to search the net for legitimate updates.

3. The thing being complained about can be easily disabled. (which I covered on page 2)

Looking a gift-horse in the mouth for lack of a better expression. Complaining about things that have an easy fix, and generally being whiney for no legitimate reason.

If they'd had issues with being charged and getting no game out of it, lost card details, hacked bank accounts, identify theft due to Steam's security (none of which I've ever heard of happening), I'd understand and be totally on board with the Steam-hate.

But they're complaining about a service which is quite frankly pretty damn amazing. I love automatic updates. So what if they stop the trainer working? If the game was designed for you to cheat you'd have cheat codes and not need a trainer. Wait a few days for an update and stop being so damn impatient. :/

If this is still too much for people to cope with, simply don't buy steampowered games, or stop buying games all together, problem solved.

WOW! I totally agree with you. I never had a serious problem with steam, just the one in my prev post about updating the game right away after installing it. I can buy the game online but decided to buy a DVD so I can play with it right away. Much to my suprise the game wont let me play unless it is updated and it took me 12 hours updating it.

It's not always an update regarding fresh off-disk installs, its a way of cutting down on resources and not having to put out a full 8gb disk along with another identical cost disk with only 1/2 - 3gb on it. When you install fresh off a disk it likely isn't the full install but you download the rest, it's a production cost & value thing, and a way of keeping the production of games even cheaper. :/

You know what, I think you are right. Because I just don't believe a 2GB+ worth of download/update is solely updates/patches.
That's why now, I always make backups for all steam games I have incase I need to reformat my computer.

That's exactly what I do

I have an entire terrabyte hard-drive entirely dedicated to steam so it works as a plug&play console (more or less) on any computer.

That and I have like 280+ games and downloading them all over again literally on a 10mb connection takes weeeeeks

I promise you it is the case in SA. It even says so on most of the new game covers that get released here. I do have some Steam titles that do work in offline mode, Modern Warfare 2 being the last of them. Assassins Creed 2 is a good example where you have to be permanently connected. If your connection fails during game play, it crashes and all progress is lost. Don't know why it works like that here. Sure sux.

Can't say I've ever experienced that issue with any of my games, even using wifi which likes to cut out a lot, but I know what you mean and that really would me off :/

Edit:

I guess it's a good anti-piracy thing, I don't suppose you can get an offline crack just so that your internet stops screwing up your game and crashing it?
