I dislike the 4th generations decision to make the starters double types. I believe it hurts them more than it helps. Out of all the starters, Squirtle is my favorite. In fact, he's my favorite Pokemon period. Cydiquil is my second favorite starter, so I chose him.
i enjoy it. Grotle or Torterra is good against your rival when it knows earthquake. Its supereffective against Monferno or Ifernape. Also one of the first generation pokemon, Charizard, is a double type as well being a fire and flying type.

I'm almost positive that all starters except silver, and gold starters, are double type.
Bulbasur, Grass and Poison
Squirtle, Water and Dark
Charamander, Fire and flying
Mudkip, Water and Ground
Trecko, Grass and ?
Torchic, Fire and Fighting
Pinpulp, Water and Steel
Chimchar, Fire and Fighting
turtwig, Grass and Ground

Bulbasaur is just grass types and learns poison moves. Squirtle is NOT a dark type (whered u get that idea??) Charmander is only fire and flying when evolved into charizard. Mudkip is water and ground. Treecko is just grass and torchic is only fire and fighting after it evolves. Piplup is only steel type after it evolves as with the other two. And the SS and HG starters stay the same as you said.

That was my mistake I meant to say that they were those types after they evolve.
Venusaur is in fact Poison and Grass
And I was wrong about Squirtle/Blastosie
However the majority of starter pokemon are dual type

They only just started changing them all into dual types back in the second generation. Before they were all beautiful, single typed powerhouses. Now they suck.
