I dislike the 4th generations decision to make the starters double types. I believe it hurts them more than it helps. Out of all the starters, Squirtle is my favorite. In fact, he's my favorite Pokemon period. Cydiquil is my second favorite starter, so I chose him.
I'm almost positive that all starters except silver, and gold starters, are double type.
Bulbasur, Grass and Poison
Squirtle, Water and Dark
Charamander, Fire and flying
Mudkip, Water and Ground
Trecko, Grass and ?
Torchic, Fire and Fighting
Pinpulp, Water and Steel
Chimchar, Fire and Fighting
turtwig, Grass and Ground
They only just started changing them all into dual types back in the second generation. Before they were all beautiful, single typed powerhouses. Now they suck.
The second generation was the one without dual-types. Bulbasaur has always been grass/poison and Charizard has always been fire/flying. And all the starters are fairly powerful.
Perhaps you like the first generation more because of nostalgia?

Whaddya mean? How is the first gen. nostalgic? Personally i like 5th gen best cuz its the newest. And NO i dont mean 4th gen. 5th gen as in black and white which isnt out yet. SO TAKE THAT!!! XD lol
