The PS3 is a blu-ray player which will appeal to the teacher if she likes to watch a lot of movies and has all the HD equipment (HDMI cable and an HDTV).
Do you know if Xbox has any such capabilities? I know it has Netflix, but is there anyway to watch Blu-ray or even regular dvds?
360: More numerous exclusives that may or may not be easily forgettable depending on if the player values in-depth gameplay or whether they obsess over explosions and "Teabagging n00bz". Also, if the kids in question are under 16, keep them off X-Box live to reduce the amount of people having to mute/blacklist them.
360: Strange controller set-up where the two control-sticks are asymmetrically placed on the controller.
360: Majority of Exclusives bear an M-Rating, involving blood, dismemberment, pointless profanity, and an online-play user-base consisting of 12 year olds who scream over microphone when they get fragged by someone who actually has had the experience of going through puberty. Keep kids away from these, if only to keep people from trying to find and kill them for their squeaky voices.
PS3: Fewer exclusives, but non-exclusive titles fall into higher quality than 360 versions, such as more graphical detail, longer draw-distance, and fewer discs.
PS3: Exclusives are not all bloody shoot-the-****-out-of-everyone games. Notable examples are Ratchet and Clank and others, as opposed to near every 360 exclusive being one where blood and dismemberment is more commonplace than anything else.
PS3: Free online community, as opposed to the pay-to-use X-Box live service. No notable quality differences between them despite the fact M$ is milking their customers while offering the same service as Sony is to their customers for free.
PS3: Failure rate is next to nothing. More 360's have had the Red Ring of Death in the first month since launch than the PS3 has failed this far into its lifetime. Also, the PS3 won't destroy your discs if you nudge the console accidentally as the 360 has been known to do, saving you hundreds of dollars in circle-scratched discs.

I'm pretty unbiased in all this but I would say the 360 controller is superior. The sticks are positioned similar to the Gamecube one so that they are in the most comfortable position for your thumbs.

i personally think the 360 is better than the PS3 from a purely gamer's perspective. here's y: Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category.

I second that, but because of it, the console is more expensive, and so are the games.
The XBox 360 even has more accessories, and a better gaming community! So I would go for the X-Box 360. The only minus point is that there are frequent cases of the RROD. But it can be fixed now!
